Expert veterinary care for your pet
Indian Hills Animal Clinic believes that expert veterinary care involves high-quality care for your pet while providing a convenient and enjoyable experience for you. We offer morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up of pets for veterinary care.
As members of the American Association of Feline Practitioners, our clinic participates in the “Cat Friendly Practice” Program. Through this program, we promote special care for cats to decrease stress and provide a feline-friendly environment for the visit. There are a separate cat entrance and waiting area to make our office visit easier for you and your feline.
We have taken special care to design our space to accommodate your family. We invite your entire family to experience your pet’s visit.
Microchipping
A lost pet is a frightening situation with often devastating consequences. Studies have shown that more than 10 million pets get lost each year and approximately 90% of those found would not have been returned to their owners without some form of permanent lost pet identification.
This is why the team at Indian Hills Animal Clinic considers microchip pet IDs a fundamental way to protect your pet and an important part of responsible pet ownership. We use Pet Link microchips, which can be successfully scanned almost anywhere in the world. The implementation process is painless and takes only seconds. After your pet has been microchipped, we perform a scan at each annual pet wellness visit to ensure that the microchip is still present and readable.
This safe, reliable, and permanent pet identification takes less than 10 seconds to implant and can save you and your pet days, weeks, or more of fear and anguish.
Behavioral Counseling
Even with the right training and lots of attention and love, your dog or cat can develop bad habits or unwanted behaviors. Please don’t make the mistake of believing that you and your family must live with these problems or, even worse, consider giving up your pet.
Indian Hills Animal Clinic offers veterinary behavior counseling for many of your pet’s problems, including inappropriate urination or defecation, urine marking, aggression, nipping, biting, separation anxiety, inappropriate chewing, barking, digging, chewing, and the introduction of new pets into the household.
Nutritional Counseling
A balanced diet—along with fresh, clean water—is an essential ingredient for your pet’s overall good health. As your pet’s caregiver, nutrition is the most significant health variable that you control.
Feeding your pet the highest quality food you can afford is one of the best ways you can contribute to their health and vitality. Although the differences between premium and budget varieties may not be apparent on nutrition labels, they are in the quality of the ingredients. Making the best nutritional choices for your dog or cat not only affects general health, but it will improve the quality and length of your pet’s life.
Prescription Diets
Some pets have serious nutritional challenges or chronic conditions that can benefit from a special diet. If we identify an issue in your pet, we offer advice and provide information about diets that benefit specific medical conditions, such as liver and intestinal disease, bladder and kidney stones, renal failure, food allergies, diabetes, and other conditions.
We carry a diverse inventory of prescription foods at Indian Hills Animal Clinic, including a complete line of Hill’s and Royal Canin diets. If your pet requires a prescription diet we do not carry, we can order it for you.
End-of-Life Planning
For many pet owners, even thinking about their pet’s final days is difficult and emotional. Your pet is a part of your family. It is this strong bond born from years of loyal companionship that makes this time particularly hard to bear.
We encourage you to talk with the veterinary health care team about these issues before they become an urgent matter. Learn more about your options, make some key decisions ahead of time, and ask us to add this information to your pet’s record. Taking the time to plan, as challenging as it may be, will lessen the pain and stress for you and your pet.
All of us at Indian Hills Animal Clinic in Tuscaloosa will help you prepare for these important issues with the compassion and sensitivity they require. We have a special room dedicated to this time to help ease the difficult moment we all will eventually encounter with our pets. We also offer grief counseling and provide each family with a book about coping with pet loss.
