Vickie Pearce has been keeping things running smoothly for the staff and clients at Indian Hills Animal Clinic since it opened in July 1994. Having worked previously for Dr. Smith at his first veterinary hospital, Vickie has been a member of his core staff for 28 years. She feels that "it is rewarding and a pleasure to work with a veterinarian and staff who are caring and compassionate. We not only treat the pet, we also educate the owners and make every effort to provide them with the comfort and reassurance that they need."

As office manager, Vickie encourages a team approach to providing pet care. Her responsibilities include the hiring of employees, supervising, payroll, and overseeing the general everyday operations of the hospital.

Compassion, loyalty, and dedication are three self-applied terms Vickie uses to describe her professional attributes. "Interacting with the pets and their parents is my favorite part about my job," she says.

In her spare time, Vickie enjoys flower gardening and spending time with her family and three dogs named Hoss, Deacon, and Papa.

Jonathon Wayne Carrier

Johnathon Wayne Carrier

Licensed Veterinary Technician

Licensed Veterinary Technician Johnathon Wayne Carrier has worked at Indian Hills Animal Clinic since January 2007. He began working in the veterinary field as an assistant in 2005 and has experience in both emergency and critical care. Johnathon also has an associate's degree in applied science and veterinary technology and is certified as a veterinary nutritional advocate from Hills Veterinary Diets.

Johnathon's daily responsibilities include taking x-rays, placing IV catheters and starting IV fluids, providing pre- and post-surgical care, and assisting with various aspects of animal care. He says, "I love the client education, communication, preventive medicine counseling and providing medical care to pets. I enjoy working at Indian Hills Animal Clinic because the environment is great; we are like a big family. Our clinic strives to offer the highest standards of veterinary medicine, which allows me to fully utilize my education and experience."

Johnathon is a member of the Alabama Veterinary Technician Association, the Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Society and the National Association of Veterinary Technicians of America.

Outside of the office, Johnathon enjoys traveling, going to the mountains, fishing in the Gulf, and spending time with his four dogs.

Larry J. Easterwood

Larry J. Easterwood

Veterinary Technician

Having a sense of humor is very useful when working with animals and, fortunately for us, Veterinary Technician Larry J. Easterwood has one. Larry has been with Indian Hills Animal Clinic since January 1996 and performs many duties including administering vaccinations and medications, filling prescriptions, drawing blood, and cleaning up after pet boarders. Larry's favorite part of his job is providing dental care to the pets and educating pet owners on preventive oral-health measures.

The family-like feel at Indian Hills Animal Clinic is something that Larry cherishes. "I like working here because my coworkers and I get along great—like one big family. Also, I could not ask to work for a better doctor than Dr. Smith," he says.

In his free time, Larry finds time to read, watch movies, do yard work, and go to the mountains. At home, his two Boston terriers (Atticus and Ailbe) keep him company.

Diana C. Taylor

Veterinary Technician

As a veterinary technician, Diana enjoys assisting Dr. Smith and educating clients about pet care. Her military background contributes to Diana's unique skills and she feels her former training helps her perform her job responsibilities well.

Diana earned her associate's degree in science and is currently enrolled in school to be a registered nurse. She has been with Indian Hills Animal Clinic since April 2006 and has worked in the animal-related field for 10 years. Diana says, "I enjoy the people and the quality of care that we give to patients and clients."

Diana is a member of the American Association of Feline Practitioners. She enjoys caring for cats and works to educate our staff on the best cat-handling techniques.

Diana spends her free time reading, working on puzzles, attending flea markets, watching TV, spending time with her husband, and taking care of her three dogs, ten cats, two lizards, and a tarantula.

Grace Lindly

Veterinary Assistant

Grace Lindly is a veterinary assistant at Indian Hills Animal Clinic. Her daily responsibilities include pet care, walking the boarding dogs, assisting veterinarian technicians, and assisting with client services. Grace has worked in the animal-care field for over four years, and her favorite part of her job is working with dogs and exotic animals. She is a strong team worker and brings her laughter with her each day to the hospital. Grace is currently studying to become a licensed veterinary technician.

"I feel like this clinic is one big family," Grace says. "I love working with Dr. Smith and my coworkers because they're always willing to answer any question I have, or teach me something new."

At home, Grace has a Chihuahua named Emmie, a coonhound named Dan, two cats named Joker and Gigi, and a hedgehog named Quill. Outside of the office, she trains horses and dog sits. In her free time, Grace enjoys riding horses and doodling.

Kevin Rollins

Veterinary Assistant

Kevin Rollins joined the team at Indian Hills Animal Clinic in July 2014. He's worked in the animal-care field for over 8 years, and enjoys caring for client's pets. As a veterinary assistant, Kevin is responsible for maintenance logistics, assisting technicians and veterinarians with patient care, maintaining the pet hotel, and providing pet care. He is industrious and dedicated to his job.

Before joining the hospital, Kevin worked as a kennel assistant. He also earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the University of Alabama. At home, Kevin has a 5-year-old bloodhound named Riley, a 3-year-old Labrador retriever named Reese and a 9-year-old Maine coon cat named Roxy.

Carlye Stewart

Veterinary Assistant

Carlye Stewart joined Indian Hills Animal Clinic part-time in March 2016. As a veterinary assistant, her responsibilities include caring for the boarding pets, assisting the veterinary technicians, and helping maintain the hospital and pet hotel. Carlye loves working with
animals—especially dogs.

At home, Carlye has four dogs named Lilly, Lucy, Grace, and Cody. She is currently a high-school student at Victory Christian Homeschool. Outside of the clinic, Carlye enjoys fishing and spending time with her family and friends.

Haley Waites

Haley Waites

Veterinary Assistant

Hailey Waites joined the staff at Indian Hills Animal Clinic part-time in December 2015. As a veterinary assistant, she is responsible for providing care to healthy and sick pets, maintaining the clinic and pet hotel, and assisting the hospital's veterinarians and veterinary technicians. Hailey is upbeat and a hard worker, and her favorite part of the job is learning new things.

"My co-workers are people I enjoy spending time with outside of work because they are so easy to get along with," Hailey says. "I learn a lot from Dr. Smith and he is a caring boss to work under."

Outside of the office, Hailey has a pit bull mix named Cooper. In her free time, she enjoys watching Netflix, playing video games, playing with Cooper, and running. Hailey is currently studying accounting and biology at the University of Alabama. She is on a pre-veterinarian track and is the treasurer—and soon-to-be president—of her University of Alabama's Pre-Veterinary Medical Association.

Client Services

Client Services Representative Alecia Tingle joined the team at Indian Hills Animal Clinic in October 2016. She is responsible for greeting clients, taking client and pet information, assisting with pet services for the hospital and pet hotel, and—most importantly—hugging and petting all the wonderful pets that come through our doors. Alecia loves dogs, and considers herself lucky to work with animals every day.

"Indian Hills Animal Clinic is an awesome place to work," Alecia says. "The hours are great and the people are just wonderful. It is really great to be surrounded by animal lovers every day. Kindness and caring for pets is number one to us. I am proud to be a part of this group."

At home, Alecia has a one "great and awesome big dog" named Damien Saint. He's a 9-year-old lab/mastiff/Rottweiler mix who weighs 106 pounds. Alecia spends her free time walking and taking car rides with Damien Saint. She also enjoys reading, watching TV, spending time with friends and family, and getting her nails done.

Client Services

Lauryn Barton joined the client services team at Indian Hills Animal Clinic in April 2016. Her job responsibilities include accounting, answering phones, checking patients in and out, filing, and payroll. Lauryn is a friendly team player, and enjoys greeting our clients and their pets.

"I love my coworkers and enjoy helping clients get their babies up-to-date and healthy," Lauryn says.

At home, Lauryn has a 2-year-old domestic shorthair cat named Harley and a 1-year-old husky/lab mix named Bella. In her free time, she enjoys playing with her two beautiful daughters, vacationing, being with her family, and relaxing with a good movie.

Groomer

Groomer Kristine Olson has been working with animals for 19 years and has been grooming pets at Indian Hills Animal Clinic since August 1996.

"My favorite part of my job is to take animals that are in bad shape and make them look really good," she says. "Sometimes I even discover problems and can refer the pet to our veterinarian."

Kristine spends her free time gardening, watching Alabama football, reading, and caring for her three dogs.
